One train may hide another

What does the “One train may hide another” sign mean?

The “One train may hide another” sign belongs to the “Level crossing” family of the French highway code. Level-crossing signs mark where the road crosses a railway. The St Andrew’s cross flags the crossing itself and requires yielding to trains; some crossings have gates or an automatic light signal.
