- The risk of a fatal accident is multiplied by 7 at night despite only 10% of traffic.
- Sidelights: visible from 150 m, only serve to be seen (compulsory in a lit built-up area).
- Dipped headlights: illuminate at least 30 m, compulsory outside lit built-up areas.
- Full beam: illuminates at least 100 m, to be used on unlit roads with no nearby vehicle.
- In the event of dazzle: look at the right edge and flash your headlights. Recovery up to 5 seconds.
- Full beam prohibited when passing, following or being overtaken by another vehicle.
- On narrow roads at night: full beam + front fog lights possible, but must be switched off when passing.
- Parking on the road at night without sidelights is punishable by a fine of 90 euros.
