Recap

  • Abnormal fumes, unusual noises, excess consumption or trajectory drift: consult a mechanic.
  • Breakdown: hazard lights, vest, triangle at 30 m (except on the motorway).
  • The space-saver limits speed to 80 km/h. A spare wheel is not compulsory but strongly recommended.
  • Jump leads: connect + (red) first, then - (black).
  • First MOT within 6 months before the vehicle turns 4, then every 2 years.
  • Result A = pass, S = retest within 2 months, R = driving prohibited from the next day.
  • Without a valid MOT: 135 euro fine, possible immobilisation, registration document retained.
  • The test measures CO (carbon monoxide), not CO2.
