Where and how does the exam take place?
The test takes place at an approved centre (La Poste, SGS, Dekra, Bureau Veritas…), on an individual tablet with a headset or a response handset. On arrival, show a valid ID and your booking confirmation. An invigilator settles you in, explains how it works, and then the series of 40 questions begins. No personal documents or phones are allowed during the test.
How are the questions presented?
Each of the 40 questions is built on a photo or a short video of a road situation, with a written prompt. The question is read out, then you have a limited time — around twenty seconds — to confirm your answer on screen. A question may have one or several correct answers: read the prompt to the end, because the traps often hinge on a single word (“you must”, “you may”, a distance, a priority).
How many correct answers do you need to pass?
You need at least 35 correct answers out of 40 — that is, 5 mistakes allowed at most. Each question is all-or-nothing: it only counts as right if you tick exactly the correct boxes, with none missing or added. There are no half-points. The scoring is the same for everyone, whether you go through a driving school or sit as an independent candidate.
When and how do you get the result?
The result is binary: “favorable” (pass) or “défavorable” (fail). You don’t see it on screen straight away: it’s sent to you, usually by email, often the next day and within a few days at most, with your score out of 40. If you pass, you can move on to preparing for the driving test; if you fail, you simply book a new attempt (€30).
How do you arrive calm on the day?
The best cure for nerves is familiarity: run through timed mock exams under the same conditions (40 questions, limited time per question) so the format and pace no longer surprise you.
